Transformative agreements

Alexander Dubček University of Trenčín participates in Transformative agreements between the CVTI SR Slovak consortium and two renowned publishers Springer Nature and Elsevier. Therefore, scientists and researchers from TnUAD can publish their articles in the Open Access mode without APC fees in selected Open Access journals of Springer Nature and (now only) via the Golden Pathway mode in selected journals published by Elsevier.

Transformative agreements signed by the Slovak Center of Scientific and Technical Information (CVTI SR) combine access to the subscribed content and the possibility of publishing in the Open Access mode. They are state-supported agreements, thanks to which the costs of publications are encompassed centrally, thus eliminating the financial expenses for individual authors.

Transformative agreements allow Slovak scientists and researchers to publish in high-quality Open Access journals without Article Processing Charge (APC). These contracts represent a significant step towards Open Science in Slovakia, while supporting transparency, accessibility and collaboration in research and science.

Transformative agreements are a part of the European trend of transition to Open Science. In 2023, CVTI SR signed three significant contracts with renowned publishers Springer Nature, IEEE and Elsevier. It coordinates their implementation at the national level until the end of 2026, or until using up all so-called tokens.

Advantages of Transformative agreements:

  • Possibility of publishing in prestigious journals
  • Significant cost savings thanks to eliminating APC
  • Greater visibility and citation rates thanks to Open Access approach

Tokens

One token enables publication of one article without APC. Tokens are centrally managed by CVTI SR for the entire consortium of Slovak universities and the Slovak Academy of Sciences.
