Publishing in Open Access

Open Access publishing enables immediate, free and unrestricted access to scientific data, information and knowledge. It can be conducted via the following steps and options:

Selecting the methods – pathways of Open Access publishing.

Selecting and verifying an open access journal e.g. via the DOAJ or Think.Check.Submit directory.

Controlling the scope, review process and reputation of the journal. Beware of predatory journals!

Checking the journal's OA policies - pathway, article processing fee (APC), transformation agreement - publishing via reputable publishers without APC fees.

Writing and formatting the manuscript in alignment with the instructions for authors of the given journal.

Submitting (uploading) the publication in alignment with the publisher's instructions.

Peer reviewing process and possible revision of the publication according to the reviewer's requirements.

(If applicable) paying APC.

Publication release - the contribution will be available on the publisher's website, or legal distribution of the publication through institutional repositories, ORCID, social networks such as Research Gate, etc.

Optional self-archiving of a preprint or accepted manuscript into an institutional repository in alignment with the journal's rules, e.g. via the Jisc service (former Sherpa).

- Checking your funder's OA requirements.
- Asking the TnUAD University Library for other recommendations related to the OA publishing.
- Using Creative Commons licenses (usually CC BY) to ensure your article is reusable.
